In some earlier posts (part one, part two, part three) I provided a list of the volumes of the Popular Patristics Series published by Saint Vladimir’s Seminary Press, indicating the contents and the source of the texts translated for each volume. Several more volumes have since appeared, and are described here.
43. Works On the Spirit: Athanasius the Great and Didymus the Blind. Translated, with an Introduction and Annotations, by Mark DelCogliano, Andrew Radd-Gallwitz, and Lewis Ayres.
Texts: 1.) Athanasius’ Letters to Serapion: PG 26.529-638, with reference to: Dietmar Wyrwa and Kyriakos Savvidis, eds. Athanasius Werke / 1. Die dogmatischen Schriften. 4. Lieferung. Epistulae I-IV ad Serapionem. Walter de Gruyter, 2010. 2.) Louis Doutreleau, ed. and trans. Didyme L’Aveugle: Traité du Saint-Esprit. Sources Chrétiennes 386. Éditions du Cerf, 1992.
44A. Saint Athanasius the Great of Alexandria: On the Incarnation. Greek Original and English Translation. Introduction by C. S. Lewis. Translation and Introduction by John Behr.
Text: A working text based on: Charles Kannengiesser. Athanase d’Alexandrie: Sur l’Incarnation du Verbe. Sources Chrétiennes 199, rev. ed. Éditions du Cerf, 2000.
[44B is an edition that includes only the introductory material and the English translation, omitting the Greek text.]
And about half the series is available at ten US apiece for Kindle, I’ve noticed. Nice excuse to study the Fathers.
Yes, that was a nice thing to see. I’d like them to be in just epub format, too. It’d be better if they were less expensive, too. People sell thousands more copies of books and everything else when they’re only 99 cents to 1.99, the typical price on the Apple App Store. I’d get all of them if they were that price. As it is, I won’t get any of these at the price they’re being offered. Weird!
Hi,
I noticed in part two you posted a chronological list in response to a request. Would you mind reposting that here updated with vol 39-43?
And how does John Behr’s translation of “On the Incarnation” compare to the earlier one in vol 4 of this series or the one by Sister Penelope Lawson?
Anna, I haven’t had the time to compare translations yet, but one thing that makes this translation a big improvement is the edition with the facing Greek text.

I gained a few of these Popular Patristics volumes while in the SVS Press Club; a lack of work necessitated my removal from it. Hope to be able to get more once funds are once more forthcoming. Thank you for the update on the titles.
Slow and steady wins the race! I got in several batches, bit by bit, with the goal in mind. Just pick up one a month as a treat for yourself! Better than coffee!
