Sirach, Vulgate and NRSV Versification Comparison

Below you will find a chart detailing the relation between the Vulgate text of Ecclesiasticus and
the NRSV text of Sirach. There are frequent differences, with the Vulgate intriguingly including
what appear to be duplications due
to the preservation of alternate translations.

The chart is arranged with the chapters proceeding horizontally, beginning at the left, with all the
various similarities and differences between the verses in each chapter in a column beneath that
chapter's heading. With the exception of chapter 52, which is not included in the English tradition,
the chapters are mostly identical.

VULGATE = NRSV [That is, the numbers to the left of the equal sign refer to the Vulgate, and those
to the right refer to the NRSV.]
÷ signifies that there is NO CORRESPONDING PASSAGE IN NRSV
(verse#) verse number in parentheses signifies that the verses are APPROXIMATELY EQUIVALENT
(...word) elipsis and word(s) in parentheses designate the closing word of the indicated section
(word...) word(s) and elipsis in parentheses designate the beginning word of the indicated section
"n." followed by a letter: designates note in NRSV at that verse
