1. All the dates are in old style. For the sources of this Kalendar see Introduction.
2. The lessons are those used in the Liturgy; there are none in the daily offices, except on Easter Day. The 'lections' (in the more limited sense) are arranged in three divisions at the suggestion of the Rev. W. C. Bishop, M.A., to whom the writer is also indebted for the index to the Lectionary which follows.
3. St. Paul.
4. The year is divided into periods of about seven weeks each, called Shawu'i. These are: Advent, Epiphany, the Fast, Resurrection, the Apostles, Summer, Elijah and the Cross, Moses, Hallowing of the Church. The two last are only four weeks each.
5. Popularly called in the plain of Urmi "The little feast" (in contrast to Easter).
6. In the present Greek Kalendar, Sunday after Christmas.
7. The days marked with an asterisk are now obsolete.
8. Kashkul MS. (see Introduction).

4. Fixed day. Rule in the Khudra: -- The fourth Sunday of Elijah must be after the Cross, and if necessary the other Sundays of this Shawu'a must be changed. Excepting only that if Holy Cross Day fall in the week before the furst Sunday of Elijah, then the first Sunday keeps its place, and on the following Sunday the service of the Fourth Sunday of Elijah is used. There is only one Festival of the Cross, but in the district of Tal in Kurdistan a separate memorial of St. Helena is kept in September. On Sept. 13 (not 14 as elsewhere) the Invention of the Cross is chiefly commemorated, not the Exaltation. The Holy Eastern Church also combines the two.

1. If Easter fall late, all or some of the Sundays of Mar Mushi are omitted; and (apparently) if it falls as late as possible, the last Sunday of Elijah also. If Easter fall on the earliest possible day, the fifth and fourth Sundays of Elijah will have to be interchanged so as to follow the rule given above (page 278, note 4). But this arrangement is not explicity ordered.
2. i.e. "Entrance." On this day the people move from the summer chapel to the nave of the church for their daily prayers.

Additional note. -- Every eventuality with regard to Easter seems to be provided for in the above rules. In the first part of the Kalendar the following modifications are said to be usually observed. If the Nativity fall on a Sunday, St. Mary is the following Friday, there is only one Sunday of the Nativity, Epiphany is on Friday, and the Saints' days come after instead of before the Sundays given in the table; if on a Monday, there is only one Sunday of the Nativity, Epiphany is on a Saturday, and the Saints' days similarly come after the Sundays; if on a Tuesday, there is only one Sunday of the Nativity, and Epiphany is on a Sunday.
